My Students

Do you remember how exciting everything was when you were eight? Think of collecting rocks or learning to tie your shoe. You might have ridden your bike for the first time without training wheels! My students share that excitement every day as they grow as readers, play with their friends, and solve early multiplication problems. They are inquisitive and curious kids, wanting to learn everything about the world around them.

My students are creative third graders, discovering their love for reading.

From country farms to city dwellings, they come to our classroom every day with unique life experiences and passions. They love learning about animals, reading fairy tales, playing soccer, and talking about sharks. Third grade is a year of excitement and change. I hope that you will choose to be part of it!

My Project

Diverse books show students the real America--the America of different colors, abilities, cultures, and beliefs. This is the world students enter when they are given the opportunity to read multicultural books. They learn about compassion, acceptance, and the importance of diversity.

Multicultural books are important for young readers because they allow students to see reflections of themselves in characters, as well as gain a better understanding of the world around them.

Your donation would give my students books with African American and Asian American characters. With these materials--the Ana & Andrew series and Jada Jones-my students would analyze the differences and similarities between backgrounds, relate the cultures to those present in our school, and celebrate what makes people unique.
