This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
In this fast-paced world, where screens take up much of our mental space, it is BOOKS that truly free our minds. There is no greater freedom than reading something that both interests you and demands that you THINK. It is my hope to continue to provide a wide variety of literature to my sixth grade students.
"I think reading is part of the birthright of the human being." - Levar Burton.
Please help me provide my students with access to a wider variety of texts to choose from. My hope is to add more diversity to my budding classroom library. Diversity in authors, diversity in characters, and diversity in subject matter, including memoirs and biographies. In addition, I would love to offer a few complete book series, so that my students may fully immerse themselves in a story line.
My Project
The books I have chosen to welcome into my classroom library offer a more diverse perspective on the human experience. I want to continue to encourage my students to look beyond themselves and immerse themselves in both the struggle and perseverance of others. In addition, I believe that readers should be able to see themselves in the texts they are reading.
Offering a print-rich classroom with high interest books that students can relate to is critical in this time of highly distracting technology.
I look forward to further building my classroom library so that students have a wide selection of books to choose from.
