Diverse Books for a Diverse Classroom

Help me give my students a wide variety of books for diverse learners to make up for learning losses during the Covid pandemic, beanbags for a cozy classroom reading nook, and some STEM activities.

My Students

My sixth graders are full of energy and enthusiasm for the world around them. They are a close-knit and caring group of preteens who have boundless curiosity and are full of questions about how the world works.

Our school is a small, public elementary school housed in a building that is over 70 years old!

Most of my students come from low to middle income families. The school community is very committed to education though we often lack basic resources.

My Project

I have a classroom of diverse learners who need a wide variety of books to better meet their needs--especially considering the school time lost during the Covid pandemic. This project includes books from diverse authors, books about nonfiction topics, and books to inspire students in the middle grades. I also want to create a cozy reading corner with some inviting beanbags.

I want all my students to find the perfect book that will capture their interest and ultimately improve their reading skills.

Students need to read more than ever to make up for losses over the past two school years. With this collection of books, every student will be able to find a book that matches their interests. When students are engaged, they learn!
