My Students
My classroom is full of love, laughter, and active 21st-century learners! Located in Suffolk County, New York, our community of learners is very diverse. General education students, students that receive Special Education services, and students that are learning English as a New Language, grow together in an inclusive environment. My students bring various experiences, strengths and challenges to school each day.
Building a strong sense of community amongst diverse learners is at the heart of our classroom.
I have the privilege of working alongside a Special Educator and an English as a Second Language Teacher to ensure that each child's needs are met. Our school's inclusive philosophy provides for a rich learning environment.
My Project
“Outside the windows of our classroom is a dynamic, fast-paced, and ever-changing world full of choices. How can we expect our students to solve problems and make choices independently if we constantly solve their problems and make their choices for them?” -Kayla Delzer
Flexible seating in the classroom allows students to choose where and with whom they work.
Providing alternatives to regular chairs permits students to find a place in the room where they will be comfortable, thus enhancing focus and engagement. Ditching traditional desks will encourage students to share both space and supplies, fostering communication and collaboration. Students will learn conflict resolution and build their problem solving skills. Plus, flexible seating is just plain FUN!
Floor cushions, bean bag chairs, and stools will provide low, medium, and high options for seating. Students will use the yoga mats to create a comfortable, personalized workspace on the floor of the classroom or in the hallway. Book bins and supply caddies will house students' personal belongings and shared materials.
Transforming a traditional classroom to meet the needs of 21st-century learners is an enormous task! Every donation helps. Thank you for your consideration!
