As the Literacy Teacher on a three-man team, it is my responsibility to teach my students a variety of skills and strategies so they understand what they read. Part of this process includes teaching children how to successfully take tests online and engage in individually designed practice activities on the computer.
I serve a diverse group of students, including many children who have Individualized Education Plans, 504 plans, Talent Development plans and/or behavior plans.
As a former Special Education teacher, I am also an Inclusion Teacher, which means that I also have students that do not qualify for any services, but they certainly benefit from any strategies that allow them to work free of distractions in the classroom.
My Project
I have been teaching for over twenty years, and unfortunately, I have noticed a sad trend. Many of our students today are unable to work independently for an extended period of time. I blame this on a variety of factors, but the result is children who are easily distracted by almost any visual or auditory stimuli.
I believe that a solution to this problem may be using products like headphones and privacy dividers that will limit distractions and allow our children to work in an environment more conducive to learning and concentrating.
The ability to concentrate and complete work on time is a lifelong skill necessary for success.
