Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
During this pandemic my classroom and daily music lessons have completely changed my way of teaching and delivery of music enrichment. Working around the clock to provide live video tutorials on how to practice your flute, violin, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, ukulele and guitar from my living room was never a teaching scenario I could have imagined happening to me. Or would I have imagined providing daily lesson plans on google classroom through google slides, YouTube Videos and sharing lessons and resources from other music teachers in my school district. As a music community we have come together to help our students to stay engaged in their music lessons and for those with instruments to continue to build upon their existing skills.
In all my years as an educator I would have never imagined turning my home into a classroom.
My students and I no longer meet in person and interact with music in the classroom but rather via Google Meet using our Google Classroom as our pathway to continue their music journeys. I can see through our lessons they miss playing together as an ensemble and hearing all the different instruments.
My Project
The materials needed for my distance learning lessons are helping support all the beginning 5th grade flute students in my school district. We are the third largest district in our state and I am the only flute instructor who is capable of uploading tutorials for all of the flute students in our district, including my own 5th graders. These materials will help me to set up a mini home studio. A close angle lens for my camera and a ring light will capture higher definition video, a greenscreen backdrop and frame will allow me to use fun and interactive backgrounds for my students, and the flute and music stands/holders will allow me to keep everything in reach during the recordings. Lastly I need a larger monitor to help with the editing process for my videos. All these materials will allow me to make the best quality videos and tutorials for my students while working from home.
