A lot of our students have big challenges already in their lives but their huge, young hearts make them the best! They have potential like any other. For some of our students, our classroom and our school is a comfort and safe haven. I would like to help our students as much as possible during these current circumstances.
I am truly amazed by the level of participation and engagement from our students, along with families' willingness to try new things at their best ability with distance learning.
At this unpredictable time, there have been a lot of changes in our class. We no longer teach or learn at our school or in our calming, comfortable, classroom environment. Students are in their own home. They have loud noises in the background, sometimes the internet does not work or is glitchy. It’s hard for parents and guardians to be there all the time to support students with their schooling when they also have to work and have family responsibilities. Half of our classroom population are English Language Learners, and it would be awesome to help them succeed even more at this difficult time.
My Project
I am recording lessons at home for them to view, while holding class meetings every morning with students. These materials will help students and I get through this together. By having social and emotional books to read aloud, and manipulatives for students to see.
As this is hard for all of us, we need to stick together and support these kiddos!
They are so smart, and to continue learning at this difficult time can be difficult. I am hoping to be able to have the supplies for students who aren't able to have access to books or materials at home. It may not be our cozy classroom, but I have high hopes that this project will help students get caught up and keep them on track to succeed next year.
Right now we are in the unknown. We don’t know when we will be back in our classroom. We don’t know how long this distance learning will last. We don’t know how state standards will be changed. We don’t know when school will start again. We do know that these twenty 2nd graders will be moving to 3rd grade whenever our next school year starts again. At the end of the year 2nd graders and soon to be 3rd graders need our support to enhance their learning to the best of their ability at this time. Our school year is not over yet! Thank you in advance for all of your support. My students and I are extremely grateful for your support and any donations provided. Thank you so much, stay well.
