This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students walk and log into school every day full of life, ready to learn, and excited for what is in store for them that day. Some of my students walk to school, some are dropped off in a car and many ride the bus to school. Right now they all log into school virtually. Each day I get to spend with my students is a day I am able to learn and grow from them as well. I am able to see their determination and resilience for everyday life. What I don't get to see every day is the difficult lives my students lead at home. With a population of over 90% of students who qualify for free or reduced-cost lunch, I can only imagine the hardships my students face in the outside world. Despite these hardships, my students come to school with a smiling face and a joyful outlook on life. I am excited to continue on this crazy, energetic and at times exhausting but incredibly rewarding journey I call teaching.
My Project
Where to begin?! I teach a class of energetic kindergarteners who LOVE learning! This year has been unlike any other.
Virtually teaching handwriting is hard!
I will be honest with you. Pencil grippers are a huge part of my goal for this project. They will help strengthen their little hands while writing.
Colored paper is such a big hit with my students as well! I want to brighten up any part of their virtual day that I can. Colorful dry erase markers, who would have thought how exciting they are? Well, just find a Kindergartener, and you will see.
Lastly, my students will need something to keep everything organized in! Which is why pencil pouches (that are easily cleaned and disinfected) are so important. Having a uniform pouch all of my students can use will be so helpful. They will know to get the exact same pouch as me when I show them what materials they will need for learning that day.
