Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a Title I school in a small community with an amazing group of eighteen kindergarten students and their families. I say families as well because I truly believe in educating the families as well as the students.

The school I work in has had a lot of turnover with staff during the last couple of years, and some of that has to do with the dynamics of the area, but also within our community. Working with these families truly makes you go the extra mile to help the families and students have a better life when they walk through your classroom door.
Many of my students are English language learners from single-family homes, have no pre-school background, and their families struggle to make ends meet. Incorporating activities and engaging learning opportunities in my classroom that follow students home is one of my goals when families have me as their teacher.
My Project
Kindergarten is all about hands-on learning. Be able to physically move one object to another, being able to shape play doh into letters or numbers or even to roll into balls to show quantities. When our district was told to shift our students and staff to distance learning it was a HUGE shock to many but especially Kindergarten students who learn in a very different way.
Little Learners learn best through play so providing students with a bag full of tools that families can do together will not only create less stress for parents but children will be busy learning through play.
I would create hands-on kits with inexpensive materials, so that they could continue their active learning at home. I could give them tasks to complete using the materials provided in a brain bag. Markers and crayons to use to rainbow write sight words, color pictures adding details to their writings, post it notes and fun pencils to write about their house. And art supplies to create magical artwork as a family.
