I work in a Title 1 school in a small community with an amazing group of 22 Kindergarten students and their families. I say families as well because I truly believe in educating the families as well as the students. The school I work in has a had a lot of turn over with staff through the last couple of years and some of that has to do with the dynamics of the area but also within our community. Working with these families truly makes you go the extra mile to help the families and students have a better life when they walk through your classroom door. Many of my students are English Language Learners, from single family homes, no preschool background and their families struggle to make ends meet. As a school we have a couple different programs that assist families in need such as backpack full of food for the weekend, coats for kids, church groups that assist with reading to students while eating breakfast and community members stopping in throughout the day to engage with students.
