This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in the South Bronx; the reality is that my students will never experience or do science if I don't make it happen in the classroom. So far, we have studied in the Botanical Gardens, taken a journey at museums and, with your help, will become real life surgeons.

All I have to say is that with middle school boys and girls you get an instant visual of who they are.

What you don't see is the struggles they go through just to get to school in the morning. My school does a lot with very limited resources. We are a Title 1 school, most of our students are living in poverty, but we still hold them to high levels of expectations. My students are determined, willing to overcome their challenges, and never give up. I believe that it is my duty to ensure that students have as many experiences as possible. Without help from donors like you, my students would never get to do what they do.

My Project

My students are surgeons in training; for the first time, they will experience the excitement of seeing a specimen in front of them. Students will be able to see how gills work instead of looking at a picture, many have never seen a starfish, and now they will see what the insides look like. For the first time, students will be interacting with items they never imagined seeing.

Your donation will make science a reality; for the first time students will be able to experience a dissection.

It is by far the most memorable thing my students do all year. They come back years later still talking about it.
