Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Kindergarten classrooms have come a long way from circle time, sharing time and story time. Today's K classrooms have language arts and math programs that require time, assessment, and a true academic environment. The cliche, learning everything you need to know for life in kindergarten, is more true now than ever. The struggle and the art of teaching kindergarten then is to ensure that this academic instruction is delivered in a manner that five year olds can both digest and embrace. My biggest problem as a first year teacher has been my lack of resources to make my content engaging and exciting. Especially during our Independent Work Time when students get to choose their own activities, my file folder games and home-made puzzles lack a certain luster and longevity essential to keeping my very active class on task. While veteran teachers have amassed a great deal of games and centers over the years, I don't want my kids to miss out on developing a lifelong love of learning just because of my lack of time in the business. I know that choice is essential to learning and I want my kids to have a wide variety of opportunities to explore, create, and experience knowledge on their own terms.
