My students need STEM materials such as open ended building materials like Keva Planks, coding robots, and green screen technology to strengthen their 21st Century Skills of collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.
I have the best job ever! I am a media specialist in a PreK-5 school that has an awesome learning community focused on student success! I am fortunate enough to interact with every student in our building promoting reading, research skills, and problem-solving. Our students are open to new ideas and look forward to challenges that get them moving, thinking, and collaborating. I'm lucky to be able to watch their journey to lifelong learning unfold!

My Project
Our school takes pride in helping our students reach their full potential. We always strive to provide engaging instructional practices so our students can enjoy the learning process. The media center is an integral part of our learning community and students enjoy choosing great books to read, particpating in Breakout EDU and coding activites, as well as, using our print and non-print resources for classroom projects. As a media specialist, I continue to discover new ways to provide engaging curricular-related activities to help our students become life-long learners.
Creating a Future Ready STEM Lab in our Media Center will extend what students are learning in their classrooms and give them an opportunity to explore engineering principals, science applications, technology innovations, and math concepts in both teacher-directed and open-ended activities.
Utilizing the open ended building materials like the Keva Planks, Zoobs, Squigs, and Magnet tiles will allow our students to explore engineering and design principles. Snap circuits are a fun way to learn beginning circuitry basics. Coding robots will introduce our youngest learners to the language of code so they will be ready to move on to computer-based coding projects in later years. Students will be able to show what they have learned in new and exciting ways using a green screen kit to create amazing video productions. All our learners from PreK-5th grade will be able to learn traditional STEM principles but will also be engaged in the 21st Century Skills of communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
