Discovering Earth: Stocking a Classroom Library with Nature Reference Books

My Project
Young students love to learn! And giving them tools to explore and discover new information is a daily challenge in the classroom. Often time reference books are not readily available in the way they once were and having these books gives kids a chance to “stumble upon” new learning.
Reference books should be a must in a classroom library! By providing students with visual encyclopedias and attractive anthologies about nature I hope to inspire my students to be curious about the world around them and the natural beauty that lives there. For many of my students they have never left the city in which they live and being in a urban school they don’t get as much exposure to the “great outdoors” and the many wonders available in it.
Stocking my classroom library with visual reference books and anthologies will allow students to explore these interests and develop more curiosity about nature. It will also allow them to learn something new away from a computer screen and through stumble upon learning. What a wonderful gift to give a child!
