Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a low income/high poverty district. My students face many challenges at home. I create a positive, comfortable, and fun environment where they can succeed and enjoy school and learning. My students do not have many of the opportunities other students have and are seen as "typical". We teach a variety of special needs students. My students are mostly Latino and enter in September speaking Spanish. Most of my students have limited schooling in their home language when they start school. We help them to learn English, which they are excited to do. 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Many of these factors could prevent them from getting ahead in life. Aside from the hardships they face my students are eager to learn.

My Project

Help my students discover and learn with everyday and fun building opportunities in our classroom. Most of my under privileged students don't have the luxury of having a washer and dryer in their homes. These dramatic play items along with building opportunities will enhance the Discovery Lab for all of my students.

The self adhesive white boards will be placed at the child's level to offer opportunities to document their learning to share with their teachers and peers.

These writing opportunities will give my students practice with letters and writing as well. The Discovery (science) lab is very popular in my class and these manipulatives will be an exciting enhancement.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
