Mrs. Mang from Shohola PA is requesting Computers & Tablets through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
Help me give my students ease and flexibility while using our online catalog system. Using an iPad will make this faster and easier for my students.
My school is a unique school in my district. We are a kindergarten through fifth grade school that encompasses a wide diversity of students. In my building, we have students with physical, mental, social, and emotional disabilities, gifted students, and students from low-income families. Since I am the school librarian, I am fortunate enough to work with every student in the building.
My students have a LOVE of reading!
We circulate thousands of books a school year and are typically open one day a week during the summer for students and families to come and check out books. When they find a book on our online card catalog system or locate a new book on the shelves, they are so eager to tell me all about it.
What I really love about my students is their desire to push themselves to reach their best potential. My school uses the Reading Counts programs and sets goals for each student. Many students set their own personal goal higher than the goal set by their teacher and try each marking period to outdo their goal from the previous marking period.
I teach all of our students how to use our online card catalog system called Destiny. Students are able to search through subjects, authors, and titles to see what books are available at our library and where they are located. Currently, students need to log in to a computer to access our catalog. Since our computers can take a while to recognize the user, there is a lot of wasted time.
I would like to move into the 21st century by offering our students a kiosk station in the library.
This station would be equipped with an iPad that is already logged into our card catalog system making it quicker and easier for our students to located available materials. They will be able to apply skills taught during library class into library checkout.
Many students only have a short amount of time to visit the library and need to return to their classrooms in a timely manner. By offering a kiosk station, students will save time by not waiting for computer systems to log in and therefore return to their classrooms in a more timely manner.
