Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Albert Einstein said, "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." My goal this year is to awaken creative expression through writing in my kindergarten ESOL classroom. I want my students to be excited and eager to write and publish their work creatively.
My students are kindergarten language learners.
I work with four small groups of approximately 10-12 kindergarten ELLs throughout the school day. I provide students with targeted instruction in listening, speaking, reading, and writing activities to improve students' language proficiency. I love working with kindergarten because I enjoy being a part of the students' first experiences in school. I want to make this year a very positive and exciting year so that my students will love coming to school to learn.
My school qualifies for 100% free lunch. Many of my students do not have access to technology outside of school. In order to foster digital literacy and to create a passion for writing, I want to use iPads to publish student writing in creative ways.
My Project
I am requesting iPads and cases, headphones, and headphone splitters. Through these resources my students will be able to publish their writing through a myriad of exciting apps. Students will write narrative, opinion, and informational writing pieces throughout the school year. They will use the iPads to record their voices reading their work, and they can use the apps to add graphics to their writing. My students will also use the iPads to listen to ebooks, practice their handwriting, learn letter sounds, and practice other phonics skills. I am requesting pencil pouches to keep track of student supplies as they travel from my classroom back to their homeroom classroom.
Through donations to this project, my students will have access to technology that is not available to them at home.
I want to grow my students' digital literacy. This project will fuel my students' passion for writing as they will be able to publish writing in exciting ways on the iPads. They will be able to practice reading skills through listening to ebooks, and they will increase their reading foundational skills through phonics apps.
