We are located in a high poverty area where parents work long hours and we also have many retired and active duty military families. Many of our students are not exposed to team sports or physical activity outside of the school setting because of parent work schedules.
Our school does not offer any after-school team sports options, and many of our students are learning about different athletic games during our PE time.
I want to be able to give my students the best physical education opportunities no matter our location. With funds low, it has been many years since we have gotten new sports equipment for our students to use.
My Project
During PE, I have been trying to incorporate difference academic subjects and content. We have been learning about various athletes and their contributions to their sports and the athletics world.
I would love for my students to create a video to tell the story of their athlete.
Students would be able to share what they learned using various apps on the iPads. They will be able to create presentations to share with their class and the school during assemblies. Students can also create projects at home and bring them to share with the class. Students can share stories about how they stay fit at home, or even record a portion of a sports game they are playing in to show their classmates. A hot topic when my students come to PE are the various Winter Olympics sports. I know my students would enjoy telling about different winter games they have seen when they watch the Olympics. My students have so many questions about curling, luge and skeleton. What's a better way to learn than tell a story about what you learned, or how your family reacted to a specific sport?! Digital storytelling can go such a long way in the education of a child!
