“Often, it’s not about becoming a new person, but becoming the person you were meant to be, and already are, but don’t know how to be.” Heath L. Buckmaster
As Heath L.
Buckmaster states, many of my scholars are already the people who put the "charm" in" Charm City"; when they enter our school doors, my scholars come in with dreams and aspirations that I want to help beget into reality. My scholars inspire me. My scholars push me. My scholars are me. My scholars do not focus on what the media tries to portray in the news but rather look forward to being a reflection of what they want to see in the world. Diverse and inclusive, my students use translation apps to make a new classmate feel welcome, show their peers with mobility issues how to make favorite snacks, and have created sensory tools to help their siblings feel safe all within our walls.
Using multi-modal materials(auditory, visual, tactile, etc) to ensure that my students have access regardless of their physical or cognitive disabilities is both evidence-based and professionally essential. The use of digital materials instead of the typical paper and pencil style of the past is essential to truly engage my learners, as over 50% of my scholars are reading below grade level and need materials that can be adapted to their needs. I plan to use these materials to keep a continuity of learning in the event that we transition back to virtual instruction. These materials will make a difference by reducing waste( and many of my students are environmentally conscious!) We need Teacher Pay Teachers!!
