Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a reading interventionist who works with middle school students reading at kindergarten to second-grade levels. With the right support, these students can improve their literacy skills so that they can access the curriculum in their content area classes. They can also become literate to improve their college and career outcomes.

These students need opportunities to practice reading long, multisyllabic words that they will encounter in other classes.

They can use iPads to make words in text larger and then use the Apple Pencil to physically split the word into syllables to make it easier to decode. This is a strategy they can use with the text they read in all classes and throughout their lives.

My students want to be able to participate in school, but their reading levels often make this difficult for them. Please help them to accelerate their reading skills by providing them with the tools they can use to learn to read multisyllabic words.
