Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
When entering our learning space, you will see students working together in small groups to develop the skills necessary to become successful readers and writers. Many of my students have learning disabilities which makes the process of learning to read more challenging. Despite these challenges, students can still learn to read using specific strategies that help to rewire the brain.
The materials in this project include digital slides, visual picture cards, and a data collection program that uses the Orton Gillingham approach to teach reading.
It is important to collect and track individual student data in order to determine progress and next steps for students. The digital slides are used during lessons as they follow the scope and sequence of phonics skills the students are learning. The slides include a blending board drill, review of previous phonemes, and decodable text to help the students reinforce new concepts. These slides will be used for instruction in the classroom and for review and practice in google classroom. All of these materials will be used to plan lessons for small group reading instruction to ensure maximum success.
