Digital Dance

My Students

"Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game." My students yearn for the chance to collaborate with a group that strives to inspire each other to achieve what they desire. But, without the materials to do so, how will they ever understand their true potential?

I strongly believe that my students are the future leaders of today; they are always creative, determined, and passionate about whatever projects they take on.

Our school has approximately 580 girls that represent sixty-six different cultures: a diverse bunch of students who rival social expectations. Tech Crew is one of the many student-led groups in our innovative school. Within our team, each student, ranging from ninth to twelfth grade, is part of a unique department including; graphic designers, programmers, project managers, web designers, reporters and filmmakers. They take it upon themselves to share their knowledge with others, regardless of age or grade. One of their many leadership roles include intensives, a class held throughout the school day for two-weeks. It is in the planning and production events like this that I have learned how immensely innovative my students are when we provide them with the necessary space, time, and materials for them to create.

My Project

Our vision for this Digital Dance Project is to seamlessly blend coding, dance, graphic design, and film in order to create a beautiful work of art that can be performed live in a performance space. Students will learn about different aspects of technology, and in turn, will utilize them in order to cultivate an innovative project. Various materials including Spheros are necessary for the students to proceed with this project. Our goal is to teach students how versatile technology can really be, and how it can be implemented in practically anything, such as dancing and film. It is in these kind of projects that the students combine different skills such as their ability to collaborate, innovate, plan, and create, which strengthens their assets in school. We encourage our students to reach outside of their comfort zone and connect with the community in order to promote the importance of coding and how to contribute to the process of doing that.

The Digital Dance intensive is a student's safe haven to identify, create, explore and share different skills that students have.

Moreover, this type of event encourages creativity and curiosity, while as the same time teaching tolerance, equality, and respect for each individual. More than 40% of the school community gets involved in this project, making our Digital Dance intensive impact even more profound.
