Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are incredible! I have 28 motivated English language learners eager to learn.
My students come from a low socioeconomic background with limited resources available.
We are a Title I, Performance Improvement school with 100% free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support the family. Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, they have an insatiable love of learning! I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.
My Project
Digiblocks will help me teach my students to understand how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in a short time. These blocks are made to fit in single units of 10 that will fit in a case. There are 10 cases which represent 100 and in each as there are 10 little blocks.
I find that if I use these tangible resources my students can visualize and see what a number represents.
I have researched and currently use the EngageNY math program which emphasizes base 10. The Digiblocks will help me reach my visual and kinesthetic learners to grasp difficult math concepts.
The cushion is for my teacher chair. I have a bad back and by the end of the day, my back feels tight. I sit with small groups as well as when I read to the class. This pillow will alleviate the stress on my back which keeps me happy and able to teach! Last, the door latch makes it easy for kids to come and go.
