My second graders walk into our classroom every day, full of life, and ready to learn. We are a public elementary school that serves PreK-4th grade and we are located in Northern Minnesota. Our school district is 51% free/reduced-price lunch. We are always seeking ways to provide experiences for students at minimal expense to the families.
The focus on our children and their learning is outstanding in our community.
I believe this contributes to our classroom and will create successful opportunities for a great start to their long educational career.
My Project
Our desire is to create a garden for students. Taking a stroll through the garden creates mental health benefits for everyone here. We need opportunities to decompress from our stressful experiences. With your help, these gardening supplies will help us create a wonderful garden. Students will be able to learn to grow flowers, fruits, vegetables and herbs while applying their gardening skills to social-emotional applications.
This project will focus on interacting with nature with the goal to increase self-esteem, awareness, and the importance of having a clean and healthy environment to one's mood, and improve general well-being with positive effects on emotions and behavior.
We would love to have gardening tools available to provide our students with hands-on learning opportunities. The materials for this project would provide our students with weeks of activities to assist in our lessons, and expand on their knowledge of gardening.
