I teach in a Self-Contained Kindergarten and First Grade Classroom. The students in my class are each on the Autism Spectrum. Just like the Autism Spectrum identifies a wide range of skills across many areas; my students also have a wide range of varying levels of skills in the following areas: communication, functioning, sensory, behavior, academics, social. My students love to learn and do best with hands-on materials. With your help, my students will be more successful in building their foundational math skills! Materials I’m asking for include manipulatives for counting, sorting, patterning; simple games to help support skill transfer (transferring skills learned in the learning environment to the real world); materials that incorporate fine motor skills to help support students' fine motor development.
My Project
These materials will support my student's learning of critical foundational math skills such as number identification, counting with 1:1 correspondence, matching number to quantities, simple addition and subtraction, and 2D shape identification. These foundational skills are the building blocks of future learning.
Each of the students in my classroom learns at different paces and levels.
In order to best support each student, I have to offer a variety of materials for my students to learn from. The variety of materials I am requesting, including games, puzzles, cubes, and counters, will provide each student many opportunities for growth with math skills. Having these materials will help my students in so many ways!
