My classroom consists of 21 bright, curious, and hard working 3rd graders. Each morning, they come to school with a smile, ready to learn and tackle new challenges. My students can't seem to have enough of learning. They want to read more, write more, and solve more math problems. They especially enjoy having choices, interacting with one another, creating questions and debatable topics, sharing different points of view, and growing ideas together in many different collaborative settings I offer in class.
As their proud teacher, I always look for ways to introduce curriculum in a way that is engaging, motivating, and meaningful to all learners, regardless of their readiness, interests, or learning styles.
My Project
I would like to make learning FUN for my students while supporting their INDIVIDUAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT. I have such a diverse group of third graders, and there are considerable gaps among students in mathematical achievements. As their teacher, I feel responsible to support everyone's learning by providing them with just right tools. Some students need to increase their automaticity in math facts whereas others may need to be constantly challenged.
I strongly believe that having organized purposeful math learning centers will be vital in promoting all my students to grow from where they are.
Although I strive to make learning fun as much as possible all day, the activities in my math centers will provide a slightly greater "fun" factor. Having all the manipulatives (i.e., dominoes, unifix cubes, & counting chips) will allow me to change my center activities frequently, depending on the concepts that are being taught in my class, to keep students engaged. Also, I will be able to differentiate my centers using different dice and cards to support my students at different levels of skills.
