My Project

As a 6th-grade math teacher, I have been using a free trial of the IXL learning platform to supplement and differentiate instruction. My students have really bought into the program and enjoy using it.

IXL features over 12,000 math skills that can be assigned by the teacher from pre-K through 12th grade.

The feedback is immediate after each problem and if they're not sure how to solve the problem, they can choose to learn with an example or watch a video. They can also choose to work on a previous skill needed in order to master that targeted skill. As a special ed teacher with students who are learning English as a second language, these features are so valuable and allow me to differentiate instruction to each student's needs.

IXL features a real-time diagnostic test that updates every time they master a skill. Students are able to see their scores on each domain and the program assigns them recommended skills to practice in each domain. They can choose which domain to work on such as fractions, algebraic thinking, geometry, etc. This gives them more ownership of their learning. When they have mastered a skill, they see their score in that domain increase in real-time as opposed to other programs where they have to wait to retake the diagnostic midway or at the year's end.

Another feature that my students have really enjoyed is the leaderboard. I set up a leaderboard so that they can see who has answered the most correct answers through the program and they love the competition.

Additionally, teachers can assign quizzes through IXL. They have an amazing question bank on every skill you could possibly think of.
