As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. My school is just one of 14 elementary schools in the Manchester School District. My students make up 20 out of the 410 students in the whole school. Despite the many challenges my students and their families face, I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. My goal is for them to feel successful both inside and outside of the classroom.
My students are creative, clever, very energetic and all types of learners.
They like to move, they love math and they appreciate lots of positive attention. They are excited to explore new concepts and ideas each day. I value respect and friendship in our classroom. From the minute they walk in the door of our classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I believe in my students. We are kind and respectful to one another, and we all help each other learn in positive and meaningful ways.
My Project
My students are different learners and need different ways to learn. I provide many opportunities throughout the school day for students to move freely around the room. My students are very active. They love to move. They appreciate hands on learning. They enjoy sing our flex-space seating options that we have. Every day they enjoy different ways of moving in the classroom, especially using our new wobble-chairs. As an educator, it is my job to provide them with all the possible learning opportunities I can. By donating to this project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Giving them opportunities to learn in different ways is the key to a successful classroom.
All of my students have different learning styles. Classrooms with flexible seating gives students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. I have noticed a huge improvement in their attention span ever since we started using flex-space furniture. These different types of tools in my classroom help my different types of learners. By receiving the materials in this project, my students will work collaboratively, communicate, and engage in critical thinking. With this flex furniture (including wobble chairs, stacking chairs, and a carpet), my students will not only be able to make a choice of how they learn, but they will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand.
