Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are all in a Special Day Class for students who are deaf/hard of hearing. They learn in an oral environment with assistive devices to maximize their speaking and listening skills. They do not like reading a lot of lengthy text chapters but thrive with comic-book-style writing that has a lot of imagery.

My Project

Since students are interested in these books they will be more interested in reading and engaged with the content. We could use multiple copies of El Deafo so we each student can have a copy on their desk to read aloud and use for later assignments comparing the book to the new show. Since the students are deaf or hard of hearing we also are in need of more surge protectors because various microphones are used to connect to their devices each day. At the end of the day, some of these devices are also plugged in. Having longer and more extension cords will help us spread our other surge protectors out so we aren't trying to switch things around with electronics as often.
