Developing Sensory and Fine Motor Skills for School Success!
My students need all these items geared for fine motor, sensory and visual development. Students will work to develop their fine motor skills, in-hand strength, body awareness and transition skills needed for overall school functioning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As an Occupational Therapist at a community school (grades K-5) in the North Bronx, students are continuously benefiting from a variety of supports in therapy and in the classroom setting. These supports allow for improved functioning throughout the day. The classrooms that I work in are self-contained, integrated and general education. The students that I work have a variety of needs and often each child needs specific support to improve function in and out of the classroom setting. From sensory related difficulties to fine motor delays, the materials used are often a benefit to the child throughout the day.
With the support of these materials, students will have the opportunity to fully access their learning!!!
My Project
These materials that help to develop a variety of skills will directly impact student performance and motivation. Students will have more opportunity in therapy to work on balance skills, overall strength/endurance, manual dexterity skills and improving on body awareness. Children need these fundamental skills to upright in a chair at table-top, manage their bodies in space, hold a pencil with a good healthy grip and self-regulated effectively throughout the day. Children in therapy will also have an opportunity to develop visual motor skills with the highlighted reader tab and feel more comfortable if they have any vision issues. Thank you so much!
