My Project

The more that I am learning about how children learn to read, the more I realize that my library needs decodable books. I have wonderful books for our pre-school, kindergarten, and 1st graders can check out and take home so someone at home can read to them, but these books typically aren't the books our beginning readers need to be practicing to become better readers. They need decodables.

There are times when we finish with our lesson early, and students are allowed free choice through stations.

I usually have a reading station, but my early readers typically just look at their books' pictures. How much better would it be if they could actually sit with a book and read it! That's where the decodables come in. With this project funded, I will be able to create a reading station and fill a basket of books that are appropriate for our younger readers.
