Kindergarten is an exciting time for students, as it is many of their first experiences in the school system. I have the opportunity to teach students of all different backgrounds as well as ESL students.
Together, we create a positive learning environment that allows each student to learn to their best ability using a variety of methods and resources.
We celebrate all successes, big or small, and learn the importance of teamwork and collaboration. I strive to make sure that every student leaves my classroom as a confident individual who is eager to continue their love of learning throughout their school years.
My Project
Developing strong, confident readers is one of my top priorities as a kindergarten teacher. We implement guided reading stations everyday to build these skills and differentiate to the different levels of readers.
These guided reading resources will help my students develop and strengthen their reading skills.
The students will use the leveled books to practice sight words and decoding, as well as develop vocabulary and practice proper reading skills. They will use these books both in small groups and at home with their families. Book bags would be beneficial so the books are protected as they are taken to and from school. We could also use colored card stock for daily station activities. The students are in need of headphones for our iPad listening center and a storage area for our lapboards. My class would also like to have a class set of privacy shields for students to use as they complete assessments, and for some students who prefer privacy during the creative process.
