My students need products like the listening center skill packs to help them better engage with the vocabulary they will need for the twenty-first century. The sight word readers will help them increase both their reading fluency and comprehension.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students have very bubbly personalities and are lots of fun. They are hard workers and always work towards being successful. Many of these students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and struggle to have their basic needs met. These are students that need opportunities to be in leadership roles and feel the confidence that comes with emerging as a leader.
Being positive in a negative situation is not naïve, it's leadership.
These students use their positive attitudes to help them reach towards their goals to be better readers and successful at school in general.
My Project
Learning sight words helps students have more confidence when reading a new text, allowing them to try more challenging reading. Knowing these words helps them work through books that would normally be far above their levels. This helps them feel confident to tackle texts that would normally be out of their reach, helping them to both gain vocabulary and grow in their reading skills.
Knowledge is power.
Providing my students with these materials and a new understanding of reading will help give them the power they need to be upstanding leaders. Knowing how to read, and being a confident reader, are required of leaders within the school. Giving the students the ability to read will open up many different opportunities for them, both within the school and in life.
