Our students have been able to use these books as their own in order to annotate them and prepare for the STEM challenges that we complete with each book. Students have learned to annotate and find both specific details and overarching themes thanks to your helpful donations.\r\n\r\nOur STEM Battle of the Books team meets twice a week to read together and complete challenges. The club is working together toward a final competition day in which they will get to interact with students from other schools in our school district. \r\n\r\nThe students in this group love to read, and there's nothing more satisfying as a librarian than being able to give them the books to keep for themselves. I have students finding me in the halls between club meetings to talk about what they've read, and one student recently told me that he loved having a book that made him cry. \"They were happy tears, and I didn't know a book could make me feel that way.\"\r\n\r\nThank you again for your donation to our project at Sumner! For example, we've started a collaborative art project where we use the whiteboards to sketch ideas before translating them into larger projects. The rug has been a game-changer during our daily discussions on topics like empathy and communication, and it really helps set the tone for those important social-emotional learning moments. The sorting mailboxes have been perfect for encouraging organization while also fostering a sense of responsibility, as students get to share things with their families and peers.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were so excited! The whiteboards sparked immediate creativity; students were writing their thoughts and ideas, almost as if they couldn't wait to use them. The rug was a big hit too—my class loves gathering around it, and it's become our \"circle of trust\" for open discussions. It really made them feel more connected, not just with the lesson, but with each other.\r\n\r\nAs for next steps, we're diving into a group project where students will collaborate to create a presentation using the whiteboards to sketch and plan their ideas, then present them to the class. The paper sorting mailboxes will help us organize all the information and drafts they'll be sharing throughout the project.\r\n\r\nIt's such a great feeling to see how these resources are helping students thrive both academically and socially. Thank you again for your support! Even though I work in a gymnasium, I am a teacher first, and it is important to me that I give my students the best education I possibly can. My students have enjoyed using the weights at various times when I incorporate them into station work. The weights are kept neatly on the rack so that no one trips on them when rotating to a new station. Their curl ups testing mats can be neatly rolled up to keep them dust free.\r\n\r\nStudents are always excited when they see we have new equipment to use. Their faces light up and they ask me who bought the items for us. When I tell them people they don't even know us bought the items, it can be hard for them to understand. I just explain that some people like to be kind to strangers and they know how hard we work in our classes so they want us to have everything we need to be successful.\r\n\r\nOur next steps will be making projects that can supply everything we need to be successful outdoors. They will be tearing down our gym and we will be having classes outside whenever possible. We will also be looking at acquiring materials to be successful in the classroom when the weather outside is not suitable for students.Thank you again for your generosity.","fullyFundedDate":1737643482832,"projectUrl":"project/help-us-finish-the-year-strong/9055133/","projectTitle":"Help Us Finish the Year Strong!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Glynn","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp220241_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1523455204401","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/carmyn-glynn"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_2847","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":553,"numTeachers":34,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":2,"percentBlack":50,"percentWhite":10,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":29,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.3:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.7,"schoolId":2847,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sumner Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sumner Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/guilford-county-schools/sumner-elementary-school/2847"}
