Our students have been able to use these books as their own in order to annotate them and prepare for the STEM challenges that we complete with each book. Students have learned to annotate and find both specific details and overarching themes thanks to your helpful donations.\r\n\r\nOur STEM Battle of the Books team meets twice a week to read together and complete challenges. The club is working together toward a final competition day in which they will get to interact with students from other schools in our school district. \r\n\r\nThe students in this group love to read, and there's nothing more satisfying as a librarian than being able to give them the books to keep for themselves. I have students finding me in the halls between club meetings to talk about what they've read, and one student recently told me that he loved having a book that made him cry. \"They were happy tears, and I didn't know a book could make me feel that way.\"\r\n\r\nThank you again for your donation to our project at Sumner! The funds were used to purchase calm-down materials for our youngest students who can struggle with emotional regulation. The materials were divided up and placed in backpacks for the calm-down corners in the classrooms. Students have been using the materials to focus their attention on the tactile and visual stimulation of the items so they are able to de-escalate and return to learning.
