My students need different color duct tape to color code school materials to stay organized. We need library pockets and cards to organizer our classroom library and keep track of our shared reading books.
I have 90 7th graders who are more excited about learning than any others I have seen. Budget cuts have very negatively impacted our school. We have less staff, aging technology, and don't have any more money for books. The parents have had to foot the bill for more and more, which is a huge burden on them.
My goal in teaching 7th Grade English is to make students love to read.
How much a middle school student reads predicts their future life success. Therefore, my goal is to instill a love of reading.
My Project
An important part of middle school is developing the necessary skills students need to be self-directed learners. Maybe the most important of these skills is organization. Middle schoolers often struggle with developing the organization skills needed to handle switching from a self-contained classroom to using a locker and switching classes at least four times a day.
I have developed a plan to organize my classroom and all the materials of my 90 seventh grade students through color coding.
I need many rolls of different color duct tape, library pockets, and different color index cards to implement this plan. It will help students learn strategies to keep them organized, which they can use for the rest of their lives. It will also keep my books from going missing, so they are always available to students to use.
