Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Working in a low-income district with 75% of the students being English Language Learners can be hard at times, but the enthusiasm and perseverance my students show up with every day is inspirational.
School is my students' safe, encouraging, positive, and interactive place that they look forward to coming to every day.
School is the place where my students can dive into learning and immerse themselves in a variety of topics that spark their interests. Every day in our classroom my students are developing into the future explorers, researchers, writers, artists, engineers, and mathematicians of our country!
My Project
As the world around us is constantly changing, specifically in regards to technology, our school site is working on developing ways our students can access more high tech tools. This year our school is moving toward the Maker Education model. Maker Education gives students the opportunity to have hands-on engineering and designing projects that directly relate to the content they are learning. A huge part of Maker Education is having the materials, both low and high tech, for students to use during making projects. Unfortunately, due to our struggling school budget, we do not have the ability to purchase high tech tools for these projects. This 3D printer and the filament for the printer will give all of our students the experience of working with high tech tools, which will develop their 21st-century skills.
All students are creative and need the opportunity to acquire problem-solving and critical thinking skills through authentic exploration and inquiry with access to high-tech tools.
This 3D printer and materials will be added to the science room we are continuing to develop. All classes, K-6 grade, have access to our science room and will use this 3D printer to allow their making designs to come to life. Since many of our students are English Language Learners and come from low-income families this will give them an opportunity that they will not most likely have outside of school.
