Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

In the heart of the Bronx, NYC, our Title I middle school strives to educate and empower individual thinkers to make a positive impact in the world. Serving students from diverse cultural backgrounds, cognitive abilities, and academic strengths, we intend to minimize the achievement gap that pushes our students to the back of the line in terms of access and equity.

WE TEACH, WE LEARN, WE LOVE.

Combining data-driven instructional models and strong social-emotional learning supports, our scholars graduate knowing they were loved and cared for while in our school building. Our students offer their voices, historically unheard; their talent, previously untapped; and their success, often underestimated.

— Our drama and arts department is dedicated to working alongside learners to artistically engage curiosity and to ask and answer "bigger questions." We envision a thriving performing arts culture throughout our school building that encourages risk-taking and reflective practice while celebrating the power of creation and expression.

— Our budding computer science department aims to bridge science content areas with other disciplines to cultivate a collaborative culture that embodies the diversity of STEAM programming, working toward the goals of NYCDOE’s Equity and Excellence initiative, “Computer Science for All.”

My Project

The NYC Department of Education supports an initiative to offer a comprehensive computer science curriculum for all students by the end of 2025. As New York State publishes updated Digitial Learning Standards and works to finalize a brand new teacher certification option for the content area, computer science has become a consistent subject offered to our 6th-grade students.

This project will provide students with Sphero Bolt miniature robots to strengthen existing theoretical and digital skills and explore the hands-on applications of coding and programming in a tactic environment.

My students will collaborate in ways that bolster 21st-century skills and next-generation mastery by exposing themselves to the kinds of expertise needed to be successful in the growing field of computer programming and digital literacy.
