Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

In this school, we are fortunate to serve students and their families from all over the world. Some if not all, have experienced some kind of trauma and are unable to express their feelings or manage their behaviors. Our teachers are under extreme stress as they have realized that they are teaching students not only academic skills but also social and emotional skills. Teachers are constantly under pressure and tend to become overwhelmed with the multiple tasks and behaviors continuously. As educators, we are centered around prioritizing children's social emotional needs. When focusing on the social emotional needs of the students, they are likely to respond to the learning within the school environment. Social emotional learning focuses on students developing life skills like empathy, social emotional intelligence, building relationship and goal setting.

The dog weighted stuffed animals that are funded will be placed in the classroom for the students to have access to during the day to meet their mental needs.

As the students are learning, they will be able to relax and concentrate on the tasks they are presented.
