Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Horace Mann once said, "A house without books is like a room without windows. No man has a right to bring up his children without surrounding them with books, if he has the means to buy them." Access to up-to-date technology and the Internet is critical to learning in any 21st century classroom.

Classroom activities now require access to a computer to appropriately differentiate instruction for in person and at home learners.

We use computers for sites such as Blend, to make digital posters on Smore, and to access the Austin ISD cloud and portal. The cloud allows students to take advantage of an assortment of Google Apps to aid in learning.

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. Many of my students have access to technology and bring it to school to use in class. A modest number of my students do not own a cell phone or have access to computers or Internet at home. My students are enthusiastic about digital projects and definitely appreciate having a choice in their learning!

My Project

Never in a million years would I have thought I needed a high-end computer to teach U.S. History to 8th graders! 2020 ushered in a new kind of instruction that now requires educators to rethink traditional pedagogy. In recent years, implementing classroom strategies to reinforce 21st century instructional skills has been a theoretical necessity. Today, we know it's a must. Providing high quality instruction now requires technology to render better quality videos, podcast styles microphones to be clearly heard, and studio lighting to be clearly seen.

I'm requesting a desktop computer to produce high quality engaging videos for students learning at home and in the classroom.

We do not know how coming school years will challenge teachers to adapt their instruction, but we do know that technology will play a role!
