Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of today's students struggle with engagement at 7:30 in the morning, especially after staying up late the night before to either work or help with taking care of their younger siblings at home. These circumstances affect many of my students, who are noticeably less productive earlier in the school day.

One of my colleagues was given a single prototype of an Ergotron standing desk to begin the year, and the results have been incredible.

He said that students voluntarily use the desk when they feel tired or if they need to stay engaged. Feedback has been incredibly positive, with the most common response that students never intentionally fall asleep or doze off in class, and that this desk prevents those instances from occurring. I'm requesting an Adjustable Standing Desk for the students that may need to stand during class to stay focused.

Early successes have allowed for increased productivity and have led to valuable discussions about overcoming adversity and increasing productivity, two essential components of college and/or career readiness. In order to evaluate the impact of this project, I will track the use of the desks, and how it has led to improved performance and engagement in my classes.
