Designing Accessibility Through 3D Printing

My Project

My students are incredibly creative, curious, and willing to take risks when they are given opportunities to solve meaningful problems. Many of them thrive when learning becomes hands-on, collaborative, and connected to real-world impact rather than isolated assignments. I love watching students move from uncertainty to confidence as they realize they can turn ideas into functional designs that may help others.

The 3-D printer and filament resources requested for this project will allow my students to engage in accessibility-centered design through CAD modeling, rapid prototyping, material experimentation, and 3D printing.

Students will use these tools to create adaptive art tools such as ergonomic grips, modular paintbrush systems, and customizable accessibility-focused designs for differently abled learners and younger students.

Access to reliable fabrication tools and materials will help students experience authentic design workflows that include sketching, testing, failure, redesign, and refinement. Rather than simply learning about technology, students will become creators and problem solvers who use creativity, empathy, and engineering concepts to develop meaningful solutions that positively impact their school community.
