My Project

As an instructor in Industrial Technology Education in the small rural school in Alberton, MT, I have been moving toward modern, innovative technologies in my classes including the use of Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) programs and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programs to create part designs and gcode to run my CNC router, plasma, 3d printers, and soon to arrive CNC mill. I have been relying on a set of nearly 10 year old laptops and an 8 year old desktop and they simply do not have the power to run Fusion 360 and other state of the art CAD/CAM applications. When I can get them to work at all, it's common to wait 5-10 minutes for the program to load and then constantly wait for the sluggish computers to respond throughout the design process. This eats into class time and prevents us from creating complex designs.

This new computer will allow my students and me to create and render models for instructional videos, design and manufacture parts for our robotics program, and it will literally save me up to an hour a day waiting for my computer to respond.

Students will use this computer to interface with various machinery or to work on particularly complex 3d models, but we will also be looking to purchase some replacement laptops.
