Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a full-time STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) teacher to kindergarten through sixth grade students. Many of my students are English Language Learners who enter my class below grade level in reading, writing, and mathematics; yet, this never prevented them from walking through my classroom door energetic, eager, and excited to learn!
I want to continue to provide my students learning opportunities they can get excited about--even if it is through distance learning.
Two things I know about my students: they love when learning occurs in a hands-on, engaging way, and love when they are able to apply their learning to the real world. Now that we have transitioned to a distance learning platform, I am determined to provide learning opportunities that prepare my students for the 21st century, focusing on the well-being of the entire child through the 6 C's of education: critical thinking, collaboration, communication, creativity, citizenship, and character education. Our school may be closed, but the learning continues.
My Project
My students are designers, artists, inventors, and creators and want to continue to develop their skills through distance learning.
Each week, I will create video tutorials focusing on 3D print design, share these tutorials with students, then 3D print and mail students' designs directly to their homes.
Students will go through the Engineering Design Process in which they will be asked to design a functional invention online, imagine what they want their end product to be, and improve upon their designs with guidance and feedback from me.
When students complete their designs I will use the requested materials to 3D print their inventions, and mail them directly to their homes.
Students will follow up with video presentations describing their inventions to the rest of our class. I am excited to see what students imagine, create, and design from a distance!
