It also provides opportunities to discuss empathy, friendship, perseverance, survival, and the relationship between humans and nature.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is an active experience. Students read independently and together, participate in read-alouds, discuss their thinking with classmates, and use evidence from the text to support their ideas. Having a class set allows every student to follow along, annotate, reread important passages, and participate in conversations about the same story.\r\n\r\nThe students have especially enjoyed the characters and the unexpected friendships in the book. Many are drawn to Roz because she faces challenges but continues to learn and adapt. Students have also enjoyed predicting what will happen next and discussing how the characters change throughout the story. Having their own copy to read has made many students more excited to pick up a book and continue reading outside of our regular lessons.\r\n\r\nI am very grateful to our donors for providing these books. Instead of only seeing fractions on paper, students are building, comparing, and modeling fractions with the materials during our math lessons. We have been using the manipulatives to help students visualize parts of a whole, identify equivalent fractions, and practice combining fractions in small groups. These tools have helped make abstract math concepts much more concrete and easier for my third graders to understand.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the fraction manipulatives and games, they were incredibly excited. Many of them immediately began exploring how the pieces fit together and quickly started noticing patterns between different fractions. The games have created a fun and collaborative environment where students practice their math skills while working together. It has been wonderful to see students who were once unsure about fractions gain confidence as they manipulate the pieces and explain their thinking to their classmates.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, these materials will continue to be used throughout our fraction unit and beyond. Students will use them during math centers, small group instruction, and review games to strengthen their understanding of fractions.
