My Students

Cody, Wy is a small town on the high desert plains. It is a gateway community to Yellowstone National Park and swells each summer as tourists come from all over the world to visit our beautiful home. Cody, simply put, is stunningly beautiful. Our economy is based on agriculture, tourism, and minerals.

I could not speak more positively about our students.

They are caring, hardworking, helpful, and generous. Like all Wyoming towns, we have a sizable population who live in poverty. Our elementary school is lucky to have a tremendous parent and community. This has helped my school to be named a National Blue Ribbon School twice! However, we also have the lowest percentage of free and reduced lunch students so we receive no additional funding or staff through Title 1.

There is not much money for after school experiences for our students. We are trying to change this by adding a science activity that will get our students actively participating in hands-on, fun, and inquiry based science.

My Project

A 3D printer would help us build on the after school STEAM opportunities that we have been working on as a school. Students are fascinated with 3D design and printing. This printer would allow us to provide this opportunity to many more students. As, you know, kids do better when they are active, interested, and involved. We have targeted other high interest activities, forensics and flight, and have been able to reach over 150 students! 3D printing would be attractive to many more, and provide students with a place to be and something really exciting to work on. There is no doubt that 3D printing would be a hit!
