My Project

Welcome to my DonorsChoose project! I am a teacher at a small charter school on the south side of Chicago, where I have the privilege of teaching an AP U.S. Government class to a group of incredibly talented and ambitious students.

My students are 100% African American and come from a variety of backgrounds, but what they all have in common is a desire to succeed and make a difference in their communities.

They are eager to learn about the inner workings of our government and the ways in which it impacts their lives.

Unfortunately, our school does not have the resources to provide textbooks for our AP class, which is the only one of its kind in the entire school. My students have never had the opportunity to read a real textbook outside of class and I believe that this will make a huge difference in their learning and understanding of the material.

With the help of your donation, we will be able to purchase 20 new AP U.S. Government textbooks for the class. These materials will provide a foundation for deeper learning and critical thinking, as well as prepare my students for college level reading and analysis. Many of them have aspirations of becoming lawyers or working in public policy and I know that this class will provide them with the knowledge and skills they need to achieve their goals.
