My Students
Our entire district moved to hybrid instruction at the end of February 2021. It was just announced last week (August 2021) that students will be returning five days a week in person!!
My students come from a city that a local newspaper article once reported as having "the poorest children in New York and the most intense metro segregation in the state." It also reported that our district is probably the worst school district in the state, mainly based on reported test scores.
Those statements, however, are not representative of the motivation and ability that my students have. At my new school this year, the goal is that every student will leave high school with some college credits. Many students begin taking college-level courses through our local community college during their junior year. Even though my students come from a district with a reported graduation rate of around fifty percent year after year, they still strive to be the best that they can be and graduate with college credits.
My Project
Last year I purchased an individual teacher subscription to DeltaMath.com and so did the other math teachers at my school. We all used it almost everyday. This year, I received a quote from DeltaMath.com for a school-wide license. With this license, all of our data will be linked. With DeltaMath Plus, we can create assignments that include different questions for each student or even assign the same problem for each student, which is something you are not able to do with the free version. With the Plus version, you can also assign videos, whether they are the ones made by the website or something you find on YouTube. What I did during remote learning was upload my own videos to YouTube and assign them to students on DeltaMath. This school license would allow all of the math teachers, including myself, to use the Plus version this year instead of paying around $100 each for it on our own.
There are two programs that really saved me during remote learning, and the first one was DeltaMath.
Once we were back for hybrid, it was still something I used every single day. One thing I love about the program is it was created by a teacher in NYC out of need in his own classroom. Now this program has expanded across the country and has reached thousands of students!
