This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a middle school math teacher, I put much effort in preparing my students for the responsibility that high school and beyond can bring. I push my students to be critical thinkers, be responsible for their actions, and to value in their learning experience. To say I am proud of my middle schoolers effort and resilience during our shift to Distance Learning would be an understatement. They came ready to learn with joy in their hearts. They persevered through new math content. They reached out with questions and concerns. They SHOWED UP. My hope is this project will allow them to continue these habits into the next school year as we continue with Distance Learning in Fall.

My Project

"I am just not a math person"-It is a phrase I hear time and time again. It saddens me that students and even adult believe this. It is a passion to have students come into my classroom with a different mindset. Without being able to give them the encouragement and motivation in person to break down these stereotypes, I am looking for ways for all students to be able to access grade level content even from home.

From engagement using whiteboards to using tracing paper to manipulate two-dimensional figures, the materials of this project will help support a variety of learners while in their homes.

I want their mathematical Distance Learning experience to mirror the energy and values I have in my typical in person classroom. I am hopeful that my students will continue their love of mathematics throughout these uncertain times.
