Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My classes are full of wonderful, curious students. Many of them have begun to fall behind due to lack of reliable internet, home support, and several other children being at home. They are struggling to stay focused due to noise or having to care for younger relatives. Many of their parents are essential workers and, therefore, cannot be home to provide an adequate learning from home experience.
My students are eager to broaden their horizons and continue learning everything that they didn't have the chance to learn toward the end of the year, which included fun activities such as project-based learning.
They are enthusiastic and hardworking, but they have fallen behind due to lack of support at home. This is a community where many of their parents do not speak or read English or come from multi-family homes, so they need all the support we can give them virtually.
My Project
I am requesting a Surface laptop. Previously, I used my own personal laptop to create engaging lessons for students, but through the years it lagged in regards to technological advances. My current device is an outdated desktop that provides limited flexibility and memory storage. It is constantly freezing during digital lessons and has additional issues when I share my screen with students to conduct lessons, facilitate games, and go on virtual field trips.
With the help of this laptop, I can have more memory and the ability to use new programs to enhance my distance teaching.
I would love to be able to manipulate various presentations, maneuver through resources, all while ensuring my students are getting the help they need and deserve. This laptop would permit me to continue to improve upon and utilize best practices with the use of technology for my 21st century learners.
