My students represent an extremely diverse population of learners from an Indian Reservation in Montana. While our reservation is one of the more economically stable, we still struggle with high rates of unemployment and all of the ills that are associated with lower economic status. However, my students are not defined by these factors, and I hope to provide them with the tools that they need in order to be successful in their futures.
I am continually amazed at the resiliency that my students demonstrate and this drives me to become a better educator.
With that in mind, I sometimes struggle to provide engaging and meaningful content due to a lack of resources. I want to provide my students with access to materials, tools, and resources that are as updated and relevant as possible.
While my students sometimes deal with life circumstances that I cannot fathom having gone through at their age, they still demonstrate a level of willingness to engage in content that I find heartwarming. I hope that with your help I can continue to push my students to reach their maximum potential.
My Project
I use warm-up, exit tickets, and additional online tools to streamline my teaching and the students learning process. Unfortunately, I do not have the resources to provide each student with a Chromebook every day and so we are forced to use the student's personal devices. This creates a myriad of issues as phones often become a distraction within the classroom. I'm hoping to eventually have a classroom set of Chromebooks that my students can utilize.
I currently share a set of 30 Chromebooks with several other science teachers, which makes scheduling content and ensuring access to Chromebooks a time-consuming process.
I would much prefer to spend my time preparing engaging and meaningful content for my students.
I previously had a successful project that provided three Chromebooks outside of the 30 that I share with the science department. These have now become dedicated lab machines with the classroom. Any additional Chromebooks provided by this project will help develop a Chromebook cart that can be utilized by my physical science students.
